Retirement of LPGA’s No. 1 player Lorena Ochoa

ESPN has announced that the top ranked player in women’s golf will hold a press conference to discuss Lorena Ochoa’s plans for retirement.  Rumors have been circulating since her December marriage to Aero México executive Andres Conesa.

Close friend and competitor Christina Kim, in a recently published book, wrote, “Lorena is like a comet passing by — you better enjoy her now, because she will be gone before you know it.”  ”I have little doubt she’ll retire after the 2012 season,” Kim wrote in her book. “She will be 31 then. …”.  Well it looks like that time line may have been moved up some.

Lorena has stated “I don’t want to be playing and have kids at the same time, so when it’s time to think about a family I will finish with my golf.”  If this is the case I wish her healthy and happy children in the future.  She will be surely missed by ladies professional golf and her many fans.

Few golfers, men or women, have achieved so much so fast.  She has qualified for the LPGA Hall of Fame except for the required 10 years of LPGA membership.  Her numerous tournament wins and money earned are over shadowed by the tremendous work being done by her foundation for the misfortunate children of Mexico.  I am sure that Lorena will continue with this very worthwhile project.

If Lorena decides to retire, I for one will greatly miss her outstanding golf and lady like conduct shown over these few short years.  I wish her the best in all her future endeavors.  I can only thank her for all of the great memories she has provided us.  Lorena Thank You.

You can go to Lorena’s website to learn more about her as a person and to the LPGA for information on her playing career and stats.
